Evening Lectures
THURS. MAY 22 7:30 p.m. Ashland Community Church, Out of Ashes.
Larry Tompkins, MTHS director and hike leader, hosts an 1890’s tour of old
Ashland. View life in an old farming town through his slide collection and
feel part of yesteryear. Refreshments.
THURS. JUNE 26, 7.30 p.m. Twilight Park Clubhouse, Haines Falls, Collecting
Post Cards of the Northern Catskill Mountains. Robert Uzzilia, historian
and collector will present original examples of his extensive collection
of Catskill Mountain post cards.
THURS. JULY 24, 7:30 p.m. Twilight Park Clubhouse, Haines Falls, American
Traditions/Contemporary Expression in Haudenousaunee Art. Colette Lemmon,
a cultural research specialist, will present an illustrated lecture on the
role of the contemporary Iroquois artist as tribal historian, storyteller
and architect of change.
THURS. SEPT. 25, 7:30 p.m. Jewett Presbyterian Church, Jewett Heights,
The Jewett of Yesterday. Drawing from his extensive collection, Larry Tompkins
will present a slide program taking the audience on an imaginary trip through
Jewett Township c. 1890.
NATIONAL TRAILS DAY CELEBRATION
SAT. JUNE 7, 1-5 p.m. MTHS Campus, Haines Falls. Group hike to Sunset Rock
at North Lake. Afterwards head back to MTHS for a 4 p.m. talk by Dr. Robert
Titus, book signing and wine and cheese party featuring local Catskill Mountain
products; $5 per person.
ANNUAL OPEN HOUSE
SAT, AUGUST 23, 11-5 p.m. MTHS Campus, Haines Falls. Hay rides, entertainment;
featured speaker is Dr. Kevin Avery, a curator at the Metropolitan Museum
of Art and an authority on painter Sanford Gifford.
