Layman's Monument
A sharp eye can spot this monument from the Rip Van Winkle
Trail. Pull off into the parking area uphill from Bastion Falls (the
falls at the hairpin turn). Look up at the top of the hill on the
east side of the stream. The monument erected to the brave fireman
who lost his life on the hillside in 1900 near the top of the hill. The
Monument is on the blue trail that leads south from the far side of the
top of Kaaterskill Falls.
Repairs are being planned for the monument which is showing the effects
of time and unfortunately, some vandalism.
